In response to the kolkata rape-murder case of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, junior doctors have agreed to partially end their 42-day strike. They will resume emergency and essential services from Saturday, but outpatient departments (OPDs) and operation theatres will remain closed. This decision follows assurances from the West Bengal government, which has promised to improve safety measures in hospitals. However, the doctors have warned that if these reforms are not implemented within a week, they will consider resuming their strike.
